Environment matters:
What can I do?
- Help to protect and restore natural habitats.
- Pick up rubbish from the beach and other public places. Plastic bags and other plastic debris are ingested by, or entangle, marine animals and birds. The result is a slow, cruel death for many.
- Have pets desexed and keep them indoors at night. Many of Australia's native animals are nocturnal and subject to predation by cats. Keep dogs enclosed, or on a leash when out for a walk, to prevent them attacking wallabies and koalas.
- Plant the local, indigenous species in your garden to create a food source for native birds.
- Drive slower at night time and keep an eye out for kangaroos, wallabies possums and reptiles on the roads and roadsides.
